Reassembling the Dislodged

Yesterday was a day full of meeting wonderful new people and gaining new experiences. Yesterday was also a day of viewing things in a different perspective: getting insight into how students think, how faculty thinks, how owners of family businesses think, how events people think, how start-up founders think.

It was also revitalizing to be thrown questions whose answers I never really thought of before. Explaining the incubation set-up and the justifications therein fueled by my general kneejerk tendencies and pitching the advocacy to people who were curious were the rules in the court. I swear it almost felt like a Miss Universe pageant or something.

Today, in my indulgent attempt to go back to my center and unleash my hipster tendencies, please allow me to unleash my touristy reflective mood in photos:

Feet selfie below the tree shades before ze 1PM meeting, yes.

A view of Marriott and the moonshine. My future indie band will sound as swanky as this caption, I hope.

I love the hipsterness and the technopreneurial appetite of Cebu!

Beach Diaries: Emeralda Resort

My love affair with the beach ensues. The most recent date with la magestique côte was 2 weeks ago with some of my oldest and most awesome friends. And so, this is to share with the intarweb the quaint wonder we had found in Emeralda Nature’s Park Beach Resort.

Armed with a united spirit for adventure, us girls headed out to Initao which is about a two hours-worth drive from CDO. Emeralda is around a 5-minute drive further from the more mainstream Midway Beach Resort.

If you’re the type that appreciates tranquility and nature in its unadulterated form, this is the place for you.

We paid P50 per head for their entrance fee. The humble but trusty cottage we got, we paid P200 for. This comes with electricity. The place comes with a swimming pool and a volleyball field. Parking is free.

The sand is naturally coarse white. The terrain, rocky. The beach area naturally hugs in, which tames the waves coming in. Love it or hate it, the seafloor is rich in corals.

I loved it since I was fortunate enough to wear the right footwear. And I have this inexplicable fascination for living things I don’t see everyday.

Oh, and allow me to post some photos of me and my good friends working it! Haha!

The beachfront transforms into an awesome rocky terrain in the afternoon, as the low tide acquaints itself with the shoreline.

I will definitely bring my future kids here to educate them about Sea Urchins and Corals and Bliss and Love. Ü

For the great company I had on this refuge, I am super grateful to have awesome people like you in my life. Here’s to greater things!

“So, if you cannot understand that there is something in man which responds to the challenge of this mountain and goes out to meet it, that the struggle is the struggle of life itself upward and forever upward, then you won’t see why we go. What we get from this adventure is just sheer joy. And joy is, after all, the end of life. We do not live to eat and make money. We eat and make money to be able to enjoy life. That is what life means and what life is for.”

Beats for the Beaches

On days like these when even the office AC can’t keep you cool despite wearing office clothes that can be categorized as borderline scantily clad, any person would just want to make this heat official by heading out to the beach. On that note, I am not in any beach as of this writing though I sure as hell wished I were – 9 days without it and counting. Akkkk! I miss it so bad. Caught in a bad romance. Errr.

For the meantime, here’s my reco round-up of nice beats to bring on your next beach trip – songs I’ve experienced sunbathing to first-hand, or tunes that just make me want to somersault my way to the beach like an impulsive weirdo. Note: I’m not even going to attempt including Lady Gaga’s Summerboy or L.F.O.’s Summer Girls in this list. Please.

  • The entire Kaskade – Strobellite Seduction album.  Angel on My Shoulder personally stuck to me the most.
  • Anything Bob Marley! I swear if you think I’m not stating the obvious, I don’t know where you’ve hung out or what shell you’ve been living inside in!
  • Chillitees  (Extra Rice ++) . I’m so happy to have encountered their music in Malasimbo. Their album is so… chill. Duh. Perfect for lazing around. They have other singles out too, all of which I think are equally awesome. My favorite is Sama Na. Perfect song for that “Yes woman” mindset. Here’s another one of their singles with a beachy theme to the video (interesting how spontaneous they were at making it, too – see video desc):

  • June Marieezy – Summertime. Getting stoked for later’s Manila Music festival got me bumping into this girl’s music. Nothing fancy. Just really straightforward, honest-to-goodness offbeat Pinoy music.
  • Sugar Ray – Dance Like No One’s Watching. And this is the song I’ve been putting on repeat ever since a colleague recommended the song to me.

That said, I look forward to the day when I shall be one with the waters again. For now, I’ll have to settle with waterguns, then. 🙂
